NEW MASHUP: Mord Fustang x Timbaland = We Are Now Connected The Morning After Dark
Here’s my new mashup for 2012. Been tinkering with this track for about a month now. If you like this track, all I ask is to please add me on facebook/tumblr/twitter & soundcloud!
I’ll continue to make dance tracks with your support!
BROOKLYN: Round two of Hood’s fall residency at Knitting Factory is this Saturday 11/5, featuring special guests The Kickdrums. Showtime is at midnight. Last month’s was at capacity so get tickets in advance!
Big Sean VS. Wolfgang Gartner. Someone had to do it.
Kap Slap is a SUPER BRO! with super mashup abilities. And his newest mixtape, AA: Audio Appropriation, is no exception. Let’s RAGE with Jared from Subway AKA Kap Slap.
dannahan: What are your 3 favorite outdoor drinking activities?
Kap Slap: Volleybeer, stump and climbing the terrace.
d: What is your major in college?
ks: Honors Integrated Business and Engineering 5 year dual degree program with a focus in Industrial Engineering. But I won’t get into specifics.
d: what’s your favorite drinking game?
ks: Web, specifically in a Vermont timeshare with 20 of your best friends. It’s like quarters on steroids.
d: what’s your favorite genre to spin? hip hop, house/electro/dance, chillout, moombaton?
ks: Definitely house, both electro and progressive. Electro to get the night going, progressive around 12:30 when everyone’s hot & sweaty. Of course I like the remixes of popular songs though because you don’t have a party without girls singing along. I haven’t really gotten into the moombahton craze yet because I’m not really into latin music that much. Unless it’s at Anna’s Taqueria (Boston you know what’s up).
d: what’s your equipment of choice to spin cdjs, turntables or controller?
ks: Akai APC40. I’m very much into simplicity and compactness (I’m an imaginary engineer that’s all I do) so I do everything through Ableton Live 8, which includes making the songs, DJing, mastering and making the music videos.
d: who are your favorite mashup artists?
ks: I don’t really listen to mashup artists because most play the same old recycled 90’s clips trying to be like Girltalk or Super Mash Bros. Don’t get me wrong, a lot are really good and their mixes are tight but I’m just tired of it. My view is that it’s already been done before, if you want a mashup artist like that then go listen to someone else. I started my roots there but I’ve moved to house/dubstep music because that’s what I started listening to and wanted more people to hear. The only other mashup artist who I consistently listen is 3LAU, which is why I worked with him on Turbulent Rock Anthem. Kid has got TASTE.
d: have you been on gybo5.com? if so what are your other favorite websites?
ks: Nah. Again mashups aren’t really my thing. I’m going to start production now that I dropped AA so hopefully that’ll go well.
d: who’s your favorite artist right now?
ks: I don’t really have a favorite artist, but the songs on repeat in my library right now are Don’t Give Up On Me (Enough is Enough) by Avicii, Breathe Me (Butch Clancy Remix) by Sia and Drive It Like You Stole It by The Glitch Mob
d: what do you use to produce your mashups and what tips can you give for budding mashup artists using such software?
ks: Ableton Live 8, I’d say email me at kapslap@gmail.com because I don’t give out my tips to just anyone. I hate when people think they can make a mashup without having to match the keys/pitch of the songs. That’s like saying “Oh yeah dawg, I’m a fucking sandwich PHENAAAM. Check it: PBJ on white. Dude I know I fucking made it. It gets better though, PBJ on rye’s dropping next week.” General tips: Google, playing multiple instruments, and thick skin will help you get places.
d: what video games do you play?
ks: Super Smash on N64. That’s it. Oh yeah you’re really good at that game too? Come at me bro. I’ve got a benny that says you’re shit.
d: Wow. You’re such a dick. I like how you roll. And no I don’t play such a shit game like smash. I will rape you in ANY street fighter game. You can keep your petty Benny. Anywho, on to somemore questions. Do you watch the Jersey Shore, bro?
ks: I don’t watch TV but I’ve seen it a few times.
d: How many times have you been iced?
ks: 8 times in one night.
d: Do you wear your sunglasses at clubs?
ks: No. You see I’m not really that bro in real life, this is my persona as Kap Slap. Do you know what appropriation means? Look it up on Wikipedia, it’s the art entry. Bro.
d: You played sports in college? If so do you also wear those to party?
ks: Nah. Wasn’t good enough for varsity.
d: Do you plank?
ks: My virgin plank was on a radiator. Haven’t done one since.
d: How’s your game with the women?
ks: Highly mediocre.
d: Do you sport Axe body spray?
ks: Nope. Polo black cologne and Old Spice pure sport deodorant.
d: Have you been to California? If so, what is the best place you’ve been to here?
ks: I’ve only been to San Fran for a social media conference because of my IBE project, it was nice.
d: How long have you been djing?
ks: I didn’t actually start DJing live until spring of this year but I released my first mashup as Kap Slap last April.
d: What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen a girl do?
ks: Nothing too crazy yet. We’ll see this fall.
d: You’ve been a good sport Jared from subway. I appreciate your time. You’re a funny dude. Full of jokes ;)
